Ducks Sign Andreas Lilja To Fill Void On Blueline
Andreas Lilja has finally caught on with an NHL team, signing a one year contract worth $600,000 with the Anaheim Ducks who have experienced an awful start with holes to fill on the blueline.
The decision to sign Lilja came after Anaheim lost hard hitting Andy Sutton to a broken thumb and are still without the services of Toni Lydman who has been suffering severe bouts of double vision.
Lilja, who is known for his hitting, shot blocking, and penalty killing skills, signed a tryout contract with San Jose but failed to stick after Detroit elected to not resign him. If and when Anaheim's injured defensemen come back they seem to have a stronger back end with Lilja in the fold. The Ducks desperately need some help as Jonas Hiller has done everything he can in net while facing 92 shots in his first two games. Lilja is no stranger to injury as well having missed most of last season while recovering from a concussion.
In 478 NHL games, the 6-3 220lb native of Helsingborg, Sweden has 15 goals and 59 assists for 74 career points with a plus 39 over his NHL tenure.
