Not A Good Sign: Injury Update

As is the case with the start of every season, some camp hopefuls and valuable players suffer significant setbacks early on. This season is no different as we will be informing you along the way with injury updates.

  • Boston Bruins center Marc Savard is ruled out indefinitely with Post-Concussion Syndrome. The effects of that Matt Cooke hit are still lingering and haven't seemed to find their way out. This move allows Tyler Seguin to play center now but also hurts the offense seeing as Savard is one of the premier passing centers in the NHL.
  • The Ottawa Senators will lose defenseman Filip Kuba for 5-6 weeks after breaking his leg in practice. The good news is he won't require surgery. The bad news is the the Senators definitely need his help on defense.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets young defenseman Kris Russell sprained his knee in practice while jumping over the leg of teammate Derick Brassard which will leave him out for up to a month. Hopefully this isn't too much of a setback for Russel, this is the year he needs to take the next step in order to solidify the Jackets' blueline and his career.
  • Anaheim Ducks invitee and camp hopeful Jason Jaffray will most likely miss the entire season. Jaffray tore his ACL during a collision in practice. Known as a minor league point machine, Jaffray has had trouble sticking in the NHL having only played 36 games. He was destined for AHL work with the Ducks and now I'm definitely not sure if he'll ever see significant time in the majors.
  • Tom Wandell of the Dallas Stars will miss a couple weeks due to a shoulder sprain. The injury doesn't appear to be too serious. Wandell will be fighting for a bottom six role in Dallas and should make the cut if healthy.
