LTL Update

If you’ve been frequenting our site you’ve probably noticed some changes. The unfortunate one has been our lack of content over the past week and a half. Dustin’s move to Michigan over this past week left him incredibly stressed for time, and myself freeing up as much to spend some time with my good friend before he departed Florida.

We made the most of the 22.5 hour straight drive by making it in time for the Red Wings home game against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, my first experience at the Joe, and had a blast there.

Though we’re incredibly behind in terms of news and content, we should be back full operational by next week, starting with a few more notable pieces of news that we haven’t covered. For a full list of news related by-date happenings over the past couple of weeks, we strongly suggest you visit FantasyHockey.com.

We do have positive changes in place! If you’re new, welcome, we hope you enjoy what we’ve got going and hope you keep coming back for more!

A few changes have come since our last update post, and we just wanted to clarify where we’re at and what you can expect from us in the near future.

ESPN Scoreboard Widget

On the right hand side we’ve added the ESPN Scoreboard Widget. This streams live game scores, and upon clicking a game, you will be redirected to espn.go.com where you can view a full game Recap, Box Score, Play-by-Play, Photos, and Conversation. ESPN’s full-time staff has the ability to do all of the things we want to do, but the best we can do here is be a portal to a user friendly, information-filled network. *This feature is regrettably not yet available for our mobile version.

Features

We will be posting our Top Performers of the Week on a weekly basis. We will view the week in whole, and select the top performers and list their respective accomplishments. This information can be valued greatly for fantasy picks! Over the past two weeks this feature has been missing, but will for sure be back at the latest by next Sunday.

LTL Game Coverage

Through the first handful of days in the regular season we offered our own scoreboards with links to NHL.com for stats, including our own game-by-game analysis. This is something we desperately want to provide, but our time limitations make this an impossible feat. In order for us to keep up with news and original articles, we have collectively decided to stop this feature at the moment, but have high hopes it will make a return to the site. NHL.com, TSN.ca, and ESPN.com do a great job with this and we encourage you to visit these sites for game-by-game coverage.

LTL Team Previews

Unfortunately, the Team Previews section is being all but scrapped. Our ambitions were a bit higher than our capabilities as we started this site at the tail end of August, incredibly close to the start of the NHL season. Our goal was to tackle this team-by-team alphabetically, and the two of us meet in the middle before the start of the year. We have failed to meet this loft goal, but encourage user feedback in regards to a team you want to know about. We will be changing our team-by-team details from previews to analysis, but we don’t have any kind of a time frame at the moment.

New Look

The site hasn’t changed much, but we realized that for some, the site was taking too long to load. We’ve changed the layout slightly to provide a quicker load time, but if you’re still having issues please contact us via Support.

Get Involved

Dustin and I have been overly busy lately. Countless hours have been poured into what we’re doing, and while our hit count is respectable, the response we’ve received has been a bit of a disappointment. We won’t give up, we want to provide you with as much as we can, but we hope that you will get involved. We want to hear your opinions, please let your voice be known. Whether you agree totally or you think we’re completely wrong, it’s your activeness and interest that keeps us inspired.

Sharing links can through social networking devices such as Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr is the biggest support you can offer us.

Once again we apologize for the inactivity of late, but we are determined to get right back in the action and talk more hockey.

LTL Update - LTL Goes Mobile!

Light the Lamp Hockey Goes Mobile!

Quick update here, guys. LTL is now mobile ready to access through your smart phone.

As it is now; when you access our site, LTLHockey.com, from your mobile device you will automatically be redirected to our slimmed down mobile version which still contains everything you need! Of course, if you’re reading this post on your mobile phone right now – you already know this.

You can currently access the Main page (containing most recent posts), Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube videos. We have just laid the foundation for the mobile version, as we plan to add many more features in the near future. We have experienced some link issues in testing, so if you have any problems please contact us at Support.

On the move

We apologize for the slightly slow start as the construction, fine tuning, and adage of available content has been a priority of ours to keep you coming back for more. We’re starting to take off and will be more on track with posts and talking points in the coming days continuing on with our Team Previews and News articles. We have plans for interactive posts including polls, videos, bubble tweets, and broad discussion boards. Also, coming soon, will be featured articles pertaining to Hockey Legends, Team Projections, Top Players, and our Fantasy Picks. Our main focus has been trying to get all of the Team Previews finished before the start of the NHL season, which is a lofty but feasible goal.

One of our most important features will be our Media page. Here you will find hockey videos, interviews, podcasts, wallpapers, and more. We don’t have an ETA on the media page yet, but our goal is to have it operational before the season starts.

Support

I just wanted to extend a warm thanks to all of those who have taken the time to visit, read, and pass along our site. We’re working really hard to make this the best we possibly can, and our reward is the satisfaction of you, the viewer. To ensure we’re doing the best we can we encourage you to drop us a line with any thoughts or comments. That, and telling your friends and family about it can only help us grow and become better hosts, as we are learning every day as well.

Thanks so much, and I hope you enjoy our site.

Just 21 days before the season starts!

Welcome to Light the Lamp Hockey

Light the Lamp Hockey Blog

About us

Dustin and I are passionate hockey fans at heart. If you’re like us: you eat, sleep, and breathe hockey. The birth of this blog came in the form of one realization we both came to without really having to think about it. The basis of a lot of our discussion amongst one another and friends revolves around the greatest sport on earth. We have knowledge and opinions on every day happenings within the National Hockey League, and there’s nothing we love more than talking about it.

Our goal is to be a portal to everything hockey. From our in depth analysis and personal perspective on current events, to our lengthy (and growing) list of favorite links, we want the old and new hockey fans to find everything they need in one place.

What you’ll find

Our blog is very much still in progress with daily work and ideas being implemented to our site.

Currently on the main page you’ll find our most recent blog posts. As it being just the two of us who have our own full time jobs and full time schedules it would be impossible for us to cover every single aspect of this great game. We will, however, be working our hardest to get as much content and insight on the league and all that encompasses it. This is what we love to do, and our dream job without question lies within the realm of hockey. We never have, and never will claim to be know-it-alls’ when it comes to hockey, as our minds and ears are open to anyone who loves the game. We realize that without great websites and writers out there our knowledge would significantly less than what it is. We want to pay homage to the great sites, businesses, personnel, players, and writers by directly linking them on our main page and encouraging our readers to take a look.

Along the top bar we currently have ‘NHL TEAMS’. This section contains all of the NHL teams’ most important sites. From websites to rosters, schedules, twitters, facebooks, and ticket information. We plan on adding more content here in the near future.

Coming soon on the top bar will also be a 'Media' button. This will host videos, podcasts, pictures, and more. We will work diligently to have this feature available as soon as possible.

The right side of our page contains an RSS feed of current headlines provided by FantasyHockey.com. We have direct links to NHL live scores, player stats, team stats, league leaders, and standings provided by NHL.com.  We also have a live twitter feed, and a list of the top leagues around the world. In the ‘NHL Links’ list you’ll find the top hockey sites out there from every aspect of the game. Salary cap information, future prospects, player stats and bios, the NHLPA’s official site, and of course the top two main sites in NHL.com and TSN.ca.

Follow us

Also at the top right, you’ll see icons for twitter, facebook, tumblr, and tiny chat. Follow us anywhere, any time. Although it’s currently viewable in mobile form, we are hard at work to provide a mobile version of our site as well.
