Kings Add Depth; Trade For Legien and Draft Pick

The Los Angeles Kings added some depth on Wednesday as they acquired forward Stefan Legein and a 6th round draft pick in 2012 for future considerations from the Philadelphia Flyers.

Legein, who was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (37th overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets has yet to skate in the National Hockey League. The 22 year-old was placed on waivers by the Flyers on September 24th, and after clearing waivers was assigned to Adirondack, the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate on the 26th of September.

Between 2006 and 2008 for Mississauga and Niagra in the Ontario Hockey League, Legein earned his draft status netting 67 goals and 112 points in 94 games. The Flyers acquired Legein in October, 2009, but never recalled him from the AHL. In 144 AHL games Legein has registered 32 goals and 55 points with a below par -36 rating. Last season was Legein’s least productive in the AHL as he posted just 5 goals and 17 points with a -16 rating in 41 games.

If Legein can turn his game around and become more solid defensively while finding his rhythm in terms of point production, he and the 6th round pick may pan out well for the Kings in future depth. Legein’s primary asset is the speed at which he carries. His work ethic and determination has been lauded by coaches and teammates alike throughout his professional career. It will be interesting to see if L.A. can reap the best from the 22 year-old Oakville, Ontario native going forward.
