Ducks Sign Bodie, Waive Him

The Anaheim Ducks have signed forward Troy Bodie to a one-year contract on Wednesday. The two-way deal is worth $500,000 at the NHL level, and $105,000 at the AHL. Bodie is likely set to receive the later amount, as the team instantly waived him with the intention of sending him to their AHL affiliate in Syracuse.

After a four game stint with the Ducks in 2008-2009, Bodie made his first full (NHL) year with Anaheim in 2009-2010 as he appeared in 44 games. His five goals, seven points, and 80 penalty minutes were not enough to earn his keep with the Ducks as just nine outings with the club the following year resulted in the Ducks waiving the left-winger, who was claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes.

In 2010-2011, split between Carolina and Anaheim, Bodie scored one goal and four points with a career high 86 hits in 59 games. At the conclusion of the season Carolina did not tender a qualifying offer, nor did his tryout camp with the Winnipeg Jets come to fruition with a contract.

Now, the Ducks have brought the 6’4 214lbs. Bodie a little closer to home. Bodie will be counted on in various spots in the 2011-2012 season to come up and play against rival teams’ big bodied checking line forwards and enforcers. At the AHL level, Body will help to ensure the protection of rising young talents within the Ducks’ organization – which could turn out to be his ultimate destiny in pro hockey at the end of the day.
