Patrick Sharps Early Season Dulled

Just as Patrick Kane was looking good for the start of the upcoming season after wrist surgery over the summer, the Chicago Blackhawks have been dealt a major blow with star forward Patrick Sharp having had an emergency appendectomy on Monday.

Sharp is expected to miss 3 to 4 weeks for recovery, putting a damper on the beginning of the 2010-2011 season for the team.

"Sharp underwent an emergent surgical appendectomy Monday evening after experiencing some abnormal abdominal discomfort," head team physician Michael Terry said. "The surgery was successful and I anticipate a full recovery in approximately three to four weeks."

Sharp signed a 5 year extension worth $29.5 million in August after an all star performance in 2010-2011 in which he tallied career high numbers in 74 games with a team leading 34 goals and 37 assists for 71 points and 26 powerplay points.

Sharp’s operation may have come just in time, as the most expected missed game time should put him back in around the start of the year. Patrick Sharp is a vital member of this hockey club that helped the team tremendously in winning the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup.
