Injuries Are Plenty In The Young Season

The past week or so in the NHL has seen many players go down to the injured list. Here is a league update:

  • Mike Green - D - Washington Capitals - The All-Star is day-to-day with what couch Bruce Boudreau called a "Stinger", he missed Saturday's game in Nashville. He shouldn't be out long.
  • Pascal Leclaire - G - Ottawa Senators - The fragile goaltender suffered a groin injury on Thursday during a game against the Hurricanes. This only adds another notch on his injury belt a he's expected ti miss at least a few games.
  • Marian Gaborik - W - New York Rangers - Gaborik suffered a separated shoulder against Toronto when he was hit by Colby Armstrong (which was called a boarding penalty). He's expected to miss 2-4 weeks at least.
  • Chris Drury - C - New York Rangers - Drury came back to the lineup slightly early from a broken finger suffered before the season and re-broke the same finger in a different spot during a collision with teammate Michal Rozsival. He is expected to miss another 6 weeks.
  • Vinny Prospal - W - New York Rangers - Prospal has been out with a knee injury but it is confirmed he will undergo surgery on Monday and be out indefinitely.
  • Jared Boll - W - Columbus Blue Jackets - Boll has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to October 9, the day after Boll was hurt during the season-opening game against San Jose in Stockholm. The team did not disclose the nature of Boll's injury, although he did incur a five-minute fighting major in the first period of the opener.
  • Keith Ballard - D - Vancouver Canucks - Ballard suffered a concussion on a big hit from LA's Brad Richardson that saw Ballard's head bounce off the glass. Ballard had an ironman streak of 250 consecutive games played before the incident. He could be out a couple weeks.
  • Brent Burns - D - Minnesota Wild - After scoring a beautiful goal from the side of the net on Saturday, Burns was hurt while blocking a shot with his foot by the bench. He left the game and was seen in a plastic boot while exiting. There is no timetable as of yet. We should know after x-rays.
  • Johan Franzen - W - Detroit Red Wings - Franzen suffered a minor concussion after being elbowed in the head by Dallas defensman Mark Fistric. He seems to be relatively symptom free and could return to the lineup Thursday.
