The past few days have brought forth more injuries, leaving some preseason ice time available to aspiring young prospects.
- New York Rangers captain Chris Drury fractured his left index finger during a training camp scrimmage on Monday. Drury will most likely miss the remainder of the preseason and possibly the first few games of the regular season. This isn't good for the Rangers because Drury won't have time to get comfortable with new additions and potential linemates Alex Frolov, Mats Zuccarello, and Todd White.
- Forward Peter Mueller of the Colorado Avalanche will be out of the lineup indefinitely after sustaining a concussion during Wednesday's preseason contest against the Los Angeles Kings. Mueller had missed substantial time near the end of last season for the same reason. He's being counted on to become a young star for Colorado this season after a solid first impression with the club.
- Calgary Flames center Matt Stajan is out indefinitely after separating his shoulder. Stajan was projected to center the second unit for the Flames. For Calgary's sake I hope he is not out for any long stretch of time seeing as the roster isn't exactly oozing with scoring prowess.
- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Derek Meech suffered an unspecified head injury Wednesday in preseason action against Pittsburgh. No specific information has been released. Meech went unclaimed on waivers after making it clear to Detroit he didn't want to be a healthy scratch all season. He better not miss much time if he is trying to impress other clubs.
