Fedotenko Attends Rangers camp

31 year-old Ruslan Fedotenko has  accepted an offer to attend the New York Ranger’s training camp on a tryout basis.

Fedotenko was let go following his 2009-2010 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he had a pretty miserable year points wise. In 80 games he scored 11 goals and 19 assists with a team worst -17 rating. Although he’s never scored over 41 points in a season, it was the worst in terms of goals scored, and overall performance.

Fedotenko has 9 NHL seasons under his belt, as he looks to make it 10 by making this Rangers roster. Fedotenko has won the Stanley Cup twice. First with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2003-2004, and then again in 2008-2009 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers seem to have a knack for signing and trading for players that underperform elsewhere, and proceed to have them underperform on their books until they can “revamp” once again. It doesn’t make too much sense given the player acquisition history there, and what the moves have reaped back, but one very strong connection is that of coach John Tortorella. “Torts” and Fedotenko lifted the Cup together in Tampa Bay.
