Comrie Signs in Pittsburgh

Free-Agent Mike Comrie has signed a one year $500k contract in Pittsburgh Friday. Comrie played for the Edmonton Oilers last year where he collected $1.25 million, a pretty good size pay cut for the 29 year-old 9 year pro.

In 43 games last year Comrie tallied 13 goals and 8 assists. Comrie hasn’t scored over thirty points since the 07-08’ campaign

The 1999 3rd round Oiler’s draft pick has never really come into his own as a mass points producer. In 01-02 Comrie posted a career season high in points at 60 for the Edmonton Oilers, and matched it in 05-06 for Phoenix.

Comrie's agent Ritch Winter told TSN that Mike signed for substantially less than the $1.25 million he earned last season because he believed it would help the team. Winter also said that Penguins captain Cosby contacted him by phone already.

Comrie’s signing in Pittsburgh comes just one day after the announcement center Jordan Staal will miss training camp with a foot injury. Staal has missed only one game in his four year career with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"The fact that Jordan came back and played with this injury during the playoffs is the testament to his toughness and competitiveness," said Penguins general manager Ray Shero. "He has experienced some setbacks due to infection, but is now on the road to recovery. We believe he'll be ready for the start of the regular season in October."

Comrie won’t replace Staal as the third line center, but could be another tryout winger for captain Sydney Crosby. Crosby has supreme playing ability, but has not been able to bring the best out of every winger placed on his line.

Comrie’s lesser signing shouldn’t be as much of a blow as on the off-season he tied the knot with pop singer Hilary Duff. Duff currently has a net worth of approximately $25 million dollars from her Stuff By Duff Line, albums, tours, and movies, etc.
