Chris Stewart Re-Ups with Av's

The Colorado Avalanche have come to terms with restricted free-agent Chris Stewart Thursday and signed him for two years at a reported $6 million. CapGeek.com has him at $2.875 million per-year.
“We are pleased to have Chris Stewart under contract," said Colorado general manager and executive vice president Greg Sherman. "Chris was one of our top offensive players last season and we look forward to seeing him build on what he started."
The 2006 1st round draft pick (18th overall), 22 year-old Stewart heads into his third year pro as an Avalanche.

At 6’2 228lbs. Stewart uses his large frame and quick release to his advantage and is developing into one of the better young power forwards in the NHL.

Stewart defied the odds of a ‘sophomore slump’ last year with the Av’s. He tallied 28 goals and 64 points, 73 penalty minutes, and a+6 rating in 77 games. He was second on the team in points scored in the regular season, and led his team in goals (3) in the post season.

Stewart’s contract comes into fruition at a time of some dark days in the world of contract signings amongst the NHL. Goaltenders and mid-range household names are signing for less, and moving about. Stewart played for his pay rate and is fully deserving of this raise.

Colorado is doing something right now. They have a smart manager, smart coach, and an overstock of riches in the youth department. The Colorado Avalanche was one of the most fun teams to watch play last year, and young rising-stars Like Chris Stewart are leading the way.
