Blackhawks Sign Potulny

It was announced Wednesday that Ryan Potulny has been signed to a one year, two way contract by the Chicago Blackhawks. Capgeek.com lists Ryan as earning $500,000 in the NHL, and $105,000 in the AHL.

Coming off a Stanley Cup Championship, the Chicago Blackhawks have done nothing but shed cap dollars and restructure the team in an effort to get under the salary cap.

The 26 year-old scored 15 goals and 17 assists in 64 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season.  In 116 career games split between the Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers, Potulny had 22 goals and 27 assists. His plus/minus (-21)  rating can be attributed partially to the fact that he played for the Oilers last year, but he must improve his defensive game despite taking a big step forward offensively by raising his goal totals significantly.

The Hawks lost ten roster players (including Johnsson and Huet) from their Championship team this off-season, but have been patching up some of the holes with (of the more notable) names such as Marty Turco, Fernando Pisani, Nick Boynton, Jassen Cullimore, and now Ryan Potulny.
